Frequently Asked Questions

Unraveling the mysteries of clay and wheel, one question at a time

Do I need any prior experience to join Vojejee pottery classes?

Not at all! Our studio welcomes clay enthusiasts of all levels – from those who've never touched clay to seasoned potters looking to refine their craft. Our 'Clay Beginnings' course is specifically designed for absolute novices, guiding you through each step with patience and personalized attention. Remember, every master potter once created their first wobbly bowl!
We offer a variety of time formats to accommodate different schedules and learning preferences. Our standard courses run for 8 weeks with one 3-hour session per week. We also offer intensive weekend workshops (10 hours over two days), month-long deep dives, and flexible drop-in sessions for alumni. The journey with clay is lifelong, but your formal learning path can be tailored to your timeline.
Your hands will be free to create without worry about supplies! Course fees include all essential materials: clay (up to 25 pounds per student), glazes, firing fees (both bisque and glaze firings), tool usage during class, and protective aprons. The only treasures you'll need to bring are your imagination and perhaps a towel for cleanup. Advanced courses focused on specialty techniques may have additional material fees, which are always clearly noted in the course description.
Pottery requires patience, much like watching a garden grow! Your pieces will need to complete their journey through drying (about one week), bisque firing (3-5 days), glazing (done in class), and final glaze firing (another 3-5 days). Most students take their finished pieces home approximately 3-4 weeks after creation. We maintain a secure storage system for works in progress, each labeled with your name – your evolving gallery awaiting completion.
Think of pottery as a dance with earth – dress for movement and embrace the mess! We recommend comfortable clothing you don't mind getting clay on. While we provide aprons, clay has a mischievous way of finding unexpected places. Avoid precious jewelry, long flowing sleeves, or long necklaces that might dangle into your work. Many students prefer to keep a dedicated "clay outfit" for classes. And for footwear, closed-toe shoes are mandatory for safety in our studio space.
Absolutely! We believe in the power of personalized learning journeys. Private lessons offer accelerated progress with one-on-one guidance from our master potters. For celebrations of creativity, our group bookings transform ordinary gatherings into extraordinary memories – perfect for team building, birthday celebrations, or friend reunions. Groups of 6-12 receive special rates, and we can customize themes and projects to suit your occasion. Contact us at bookings@vojejee.com for availability and custom package options.
Our curriculum is a tapestry of ceramic traditions woven with contemporary innovations. Beginners start with fundamental hand-building techniques (pinch, coil, and slab construction), then progress to wheel throwing as comfort grows. Intermediate courses explore surface decoration, advanced glazing, and form refinement. Our specialized workshops delve into atmospheric firing, sculptural approaches, mold-making, and more. Each instructor brings their unique expertise to the studio, ensuring a rich and diverse learning environment where ancient craft meets modern expression.
Clay welcomes hands of all ages, but different classes cater to different stages of development. Our adult classes are designed for ages 16 and up, with teens 16-17 requiring parental consent forms. We offer specialized children's programs: "Mini Makers" (ages 6-9) and "Young Potters" (ages 10-15), each tailored to age-appropriate projects and attention spans. Family classes invite intergenerational creation, where adults and children (8+) can learn together. The journey with clay can begin at any age – we've had students from 6 to 96!
We understand life's unpredictability while balancing our need to prepare materials and maintain class sizes. Cancellations made 14+ days before class start receive a full refund minus a $25 processing fee. Cancellations 7-13 days prior receive a 50% refund or full credit toward a future course. Cancellations less than 7 days before class cannot be refunded but may qualify for a 50% credit in exceptional circumstances. Missed individual sessions cannot be refunded or made up, though we offer detailed session notes upon request. Course transfers can be arranged with 7+ days' notice, subject to availability.
Yes! Students enrolled in 8-week courses receive complimentary open studio time (4 hours weekly) to practice and expand their skills. This time can be booked through our online scheduling system. For those seeking more extensive access, we offer monthly studio memberships with tiered options: Basic (16 hours/month), Premium (32 hours/month), and Unlimited. All members enjoy materials discounts, priority registration for workshops, and access to our members-only glazes. Studio access requires completion of at least one course or a proficiency assessment to ensure safety and equipment knowledge.

Where Clay Meets Imagination

Vojejee Pottery Studio

Our Earthen Journey

Vojejee began as a whisper among clay enthusiasts, a dream tucked between the folds of a potter's apron. Founded by a collective of artisans who believed in the therapeutic rhythm of the wheel, our studio emerged from humble beginnings—a small space with three wheels and boundless passion.

Through seasons of growth, we've expanded our physical space while preserving the intimate atmosphere where every student feels the personal touch of instruction.

Our history is written in clay—each piece created in our studio carries the fingerprints of our evolution, the marks of techniques refined over countless rotations of the wheel.

At Vojejee, our mission transcends teaching technical skills—we strive to awaken the dormant creator within each person who steps through our doors. We believe that pottery is more than an art form; it's a meditative practice, a connection to ancient traditions, and a pathway to self-discovery.

We're guided by the philosophy that everyone deserves access to the transformative experience of working with clay. Our doors remain open to all seekers—whether you're looking to master the craft or simply seeking a moment of peace in a chaotic world.
